A Kirkcaldy-based civil engineering firm has snapped up it first Volvo EC55C compact excavator after an impressive first showing.

The machine was supplied to Thomas Menzies Builders by Rockbreakers (UK), Volvo’s recently appointed utility dealer for central and southern Scotland.

Rockbreakers already had good relationship with the firm, having previously supplied hydraulic hammers and other attachments.

Brian Henderson, plant and environmental manager for Thomas Menzies Builders explained, “When we learnt that Rockbreakers had taken on the franchise for Volvo utility equipment and knowing their track record for excellent support, we had that added confidence when we decided to purchase a new 5.5. tonne excavator to our fleet.

“We were also pretty impressed with the qualities of the Volvo machine having cross hired the EC55C on several occasions. With our first encounter with the EC55C we didn’t take much convincing and knew straight away it was the right machine for us. Besides the general build quality, the cab comfort is second to none and certainly appreciated by our operators.”

The EC55C is powered by a direct injection Volvo diesel engine developing 35.1kw. Volvo said that high performance tractive forces make levelling and backfilling “quick and efficient work”.
