Crane purchase marks a UK-first for Montrose cargo handling firm

A Montrose-based cargo handling specialist has placed a landmark order for two Liebherr LTM 1130-5.1 mobile cranes.

The models purchased by Whyte Cargo Handlers Limited are the first two LTM 1130-5.1 machines with an elevating cab option in the UK.

Liebherr said the telescopable crane cab, which has an eye level of 8.10 m, offers “optimal visibility and a high standard of safety”, making it ideal for Whyte’s operations. Other advantages according to Liebherr include the long, variable boom system with “outstanding” load capacities.

John Mullen, managing director at Whyte Cargo Handlers Limited said, “Looking resplendent in the company colours and proudly bearing the company’s logo, these new general purpose cranes will be utilised on a wide range of cargoes in the north-east of Scotland, such as chain handling, pipe loading and discharge, and for offshore supply vessels.

“The cranes are also fully equipped for mobile grabbing operations and the many bulk cargoes they will handle in the supply chain include fertilisers, grain, salt and coal.”
